Swim England wants to make sure that clubs are aware that a number of changes have been made to the Safe Supervision of Programmed Swimming Lessons and Training Sessions in the Swimming Pools document.
It is important that the guidance in this document is followed if your club delivers programmed sessions for example, coaching sessions or swimming lessons.
This document will help you to understand your key responsibilities for these sessions, for example, the need to provide lifeguard cover where this is not part of your agreement with a pool operator.

What is Safe Supervision?
Safe supervision refers to a safe learning environment where those participating are supervised throughout to ensure their safety. This may be through lifeguard cover or through a rescue qualified teacher or coach.
What Actions Do You Need To Take?
- Read through the document and familiarise yourself with the requirements.
- Share this document with anyone in your club that runs pool sessions.
- Attend one of the online briefing sessions to learn more about Safe Supervision.
- Review your club’s current position – rescue qualifications and risk assessments.
Briefing Sessions
Swim England will be hosting two briefing sessions to talk through the Safe Supervision document and what it means for clubs.
