Swim England North East is calling all aquatic enthusiasts to nominate their local heroes for the prestigious Swim England National Awards 2024. This annual event celebrates the outstanding contributions of individuals and teams across all aquatic disciplines, from swimming and diving to water polo and artistic swimming. Nominations are open until Sunday 7th July, so don’t miss the chance to honour those who have made a significant impact in your aquatic community!

Gabrielle Williams, who was named Regional Water Polo Coach of the Year and went on to win the Silver Award Nationally at last year’s ceremony, shared her inspiring journey.

Gabrielle Williams reflects on her win:

“In simple terms – incredibly proud, very honoured, humbled and very, very grateful!! For me, I’ve never been so shocked! I spend hours at the poolside for the kids and the adult players, not for the recognition but for the smiles, enthusiasm, energy and gratitude the players bring; be it at club, regional or National level – every achievement is worth celebrating!! I do it for the love of the sport and teaching of life lessons that comes with it and shapes kids’ lives for the better. I do all of this on top of my teaching job because I enjoy it and want to be the best coach I can be whilst inspiring players to be the best they can be. I’m extremely grateful for all those that nominated me, it was a brilliant surprise and a very, very proud moment!!!!”
