YSA Swimming Development Camp

The fourth part of the 2023/24 YSA Swimming Development Camp took place at York Sports Village on Sunday 9th June for the selected swimmers, team of coaches and supporting staff.

The camp forms part of the Swim England Swimming Development programme for swimmers and coaches alike. The camp included two pool sessions focusing on IM Turns, a land based strength and conditioning session plus reflective classroom sessions where the swimmers and coaches discussed what they had learnt.

Feedback provided by the swimmers during the camp included:

I enjoyed having the opportunity, talking with others and getting positive feedback during the pool sessions.

I now enjoy turns even though I thought that I wasn’t very good at them.

I need to develop my distance per stroke on backstroke.

I called the turn drill the ‘head banger drill as I hit my head the first time I did it. I’ve now learnt you need to start to turn from when your hand enters the water.

The programme’s Head Coach, Tom Rhodes, commented that the swimmers have engaged really well with all the activities provided, have put many aspects into practice both during the camp session and back at the club programmes. He hoped the swimmers continued to enjoy their swimming and continue to progress though other opportunities that hopefully become available for them.

Thanks goes to the Skills Coaches who supported the delivery of the camp programme including Oli Nevitt, Joe Barron, Phoebe Parry, Lauren Burkinshaw, Zoe Naylor, Jake Lee and Nathan Renshaw plus S&C Coach Emily Dingley.

In addition, Jeremy Stacey and Mel Robinson provided invaluable support as Team Managers.
