YSA Swimming Development Programme for 2024/25

The second face to face YSA Swimming Development Camp of 2024/25 took place at York Sports Village on Sunday 8th June 2025.

The day involved two pool sessions which covered athlete focused goals. This was supported by group discussions in classrooms with the team of coaches to help reinforce the learning opportunities. In addition, there was also an S&C session which focused on supporting the development of a streamline position and pre pool exercises.

As well as the two face to face camps, the athletes have also had the opportunity to participate in various online workshops which aim to develop them both as the performer and a person. These workshops have covered various topics including nutrition, lifestyle, sports psychology, physical growth and development. These were delivered by both Sports Science professionals and elite athletes sharing their experiences.

With the support of the team of coaches, under the direction of Head Coach Tom Rhodes, the athletes worked hard throughout the programme and were encouraged to take what they have learnt and put it into practice back to their club programmes.

When asked what they have learnt and take away from the day the swimmers all had some key learning points including dive starts, rotation, being fast under water and improving reactions. One swimmer said “I need to focus on their feet hitting the wall at a turn like a fast-closing toilet seat not a soft closing seat or lid. Their feet should be apart and push off with the ball of their feet.”

Well done to all the swimmers who engaged with all the development opportunities with enthusiasm and commitment and thanks to the team of Coaches and Team Managers who helped deliver both of the two face to face days.

The camp was attended by the invited swimmers from the following selection criteria: https://asaner.org.uk/mdocs-posts/county-development-swimming-selection-criteria-guidelines-2024-2025/
